FIFA Planning To Take On EA In The Video Game Space

FIFA Plans to Take on EA

FIFA is planning to take on EA Sports with its own football game by launching a rival soccer series.

With FIFA 23 marking the end of the the football confederation’s partnership with EA, FIFA president Gianni Infantino says the organization will take on EA Sports in the football game world by launching a rival soccer series.

After a long-standing creative partnership, in May 2022, EA Sports announced that it was separating from FIFA. FIFA 23 will be the final game made in cooperation between the two organizations, with future football games from EA to be called ‘EA Sports FC.’

FIFA now apparently plans to launch its own rival football game, with Gianni Infantino stating “The new FIFA game – the FIFA 25, 26, 27 and so on – will always be the best e-game for any girl or boy,” Infantino says. “We will have news on this very soon.”

With Pro Evolution Soccer – PES eFootball as it’s now known – seemingly well behind its one-time rival, it will be good to see some different competitors on the football game field in the near future.

FIFA 23 Fantasy FUT Update & Leaks

FIFA 23 Fantasy FUT Leaks

After making its debut in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, the Fantasy FUT promo is set to make a return to FIFA 23.

The Fantasy FUT promo is expected to launch soon. And based on all the leaks we’ve seen so far, Fantasy FUT looks set to make up for last week’s absence of Ultimate Team promotions.

In FIFA 22, the Fantasy FUT promo consisted of two teams featuring boosted dynamic player items that could upgrade even higher based on real-life individual and team performances, in some cases upgrading by plus three overall ratings. Upgrades are going to be even bigger this time around, with FUT Heroes also part of the promo.

Here’s a round-up of the latest FUT Fantasy leaks, confirmed release date and the new upgrade system.

FIFA 23 Fantasy FUT release date

One of the three Fantasy FUT-themed loading screens contains a countdown to the promo’s release in FUT, confirming that the Fantasy FUT promo will begin on Friday, March 3 at 1pm ET.

We expect that the promo will have two squads released over a two-week period, with the promotion concluding on Friday, March 17 at 1pm ET. The loading screen also showed two different Fantasy FUT card designs, potentially hinting at a new type of player item being included.

FIFA 23 Fantasy FUT upgrades

In FIFA 22, Fantasy FUT players were able to earn up to +3 overall upgrades based on individual and team performances over the five domestic league games following the promotions release. The first +1 OVR upgrade was if they made three appearances in the five domestic league games, the second +1 OVR upgrade was if they make an appearance in a team win in one of the five domestic league games, and the third +1 OVR upgrade was if attackers and midfielders either scored or assisted whilst defenders and goalkeepers keep one clean sheet in the five games.

According to a FUT 23 loading screen, FIFA 23 will have a new and improved upgrade system for Fantasy FUT. According to the loading screen, there are now four upgrade opportunities as well as the ability to earn three new traits.

These are the four ways that Fantasy FUT players can upgrade in FIFA 23 after each player has been released.

  • +1 Upgrade: One win in the next six domestic league games
  • +1 Upgrade: Three appearances in the next six domestic league games
  • +1 Upgrade: Two goals or assists (Attackers/Midfielders) or two clean sheets (Defenders/Goalkeepers) in the next six domestic league games
  • +1 Upgrade and three new traits: Avoid defeat in the next six domestic league games

FUT Heroes will also be included in the promo, receiving Fantasy FUT Heroes player items. The Heroes will only be eligible for two of the four possible upgrades due to them not being able to make appearances or be involved in goals or clean sheets.

FIFA 23 Fantasy FUT leaks

The leaks come from reliable leaker @FutSheriff. According to him, Fantasy FUT could be one of the best of FUT 23 with FUT Heroes set to be included in the promo, but with a twist.

Each FUT Hero item included in the Fantasy FUT promo will receive upgrades based on a team they represented in their playing career, though they will not be listed as a player for that club, with the most logical option being a FUT Heroes league. As well as the FUT Heroes, the leaker has revealed a handful of players that are also reportedly set to feature. Here are the latest Fantasy FUT leaks.

  • David Ginola (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Newcastle United
  • Ivan Cordoba (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Inter Milan
  • Abedi Pele (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Marseille
  • Joan Capdevilla (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Villarreal
  • Ledley King (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Tottenham
  • Lars Ricken (FUT Hero) – Performance upgrades based on Borussia Dortmund
  • Peter Crouch (FUT Hero) – Upgrades based on Liverpool
  • Sami Al-Jaber (FUT Hero) – Upgrades based on Al-Hilal (SBC)
  • Harry Kewell (FUT Hero) – Upgrades based on Leeds United
  • Alexis Sanchez (Marseille)
  • Marcos Llorente (Atletico Madrid)
  • Fernando (Sevilla)
  • Said Benrhama (West Ham United)
  • Amine Gouiri (Rennes) – Objective
  • Kamal Miller (Impact Montreal)
  • Armand Lauriente (Sassuolo)
  • Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin)
  • Amath Ndiaye (Mallorca)
  • Angelio (Hoffenheim)
  • Milan Skriniar (Inter Milan)
  • Memphis Depay (Atletico Madrid) – SBC
  • Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)
  • Dele Alli (Besiktas)
  • William Saliba (Arsenal)
  • Fabian (Paris Saint-Germain)

None of these players are yet to be confirmed to feature in the promo by EA, so we won’t know if they are included until the official release. We also don’t know if these players are leaked to come in Team 1 or Team 2 of the promo.

Is FIFA 23 Crossplay or Cross-Platform?

FIFA 23 Crossplay

FIFA 23 crossplay allows players from different platforms to face off against each other for the first time in the series history.

You can now play Fifa with your friends, regardless of which console they own. Earlier this year, EA ran a FIFA 22 crossplay functionality test, giving those who owned one of the current generation of consoles a new experience.

FIFA 23 crossplay modes

With the exception of Pro Clubs and any of the co-op specific modes, every other online-enabled mode features cross-platform play in FIFA 23.

Here’s every mode FIFA 23 crossplay supports:

  • FUT Online Friendlies
  • Online Seasons
  • FUT Rivals
  • FUT Champions
  • FUT Online Draft
Can PC players face off against PlayStation 5 players using FIFA 23 crossplay?

Yes, PC players can play against PlayStation 5, Xbox Sereis X/S, and Stadia players. The PC version of FIFA 23 now sports the next-generation engine, which is the same version as the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

Which platforms share a transfer market in FIFA 23?

FIFA 23 is split up into two versions of the game, but the transfer markets mostly aren’t segmented. FIFA 23 on PC has its own transfer market, all other consoles share one.

FIFA 23 EA Play Early Access Details

Fifa 23 Early Release

EA Sports confirmed that players will still get early access to FIFA 23 by using their EA Play subscription service, but the early access isn’t as early as previous years.

EA Play is a subscription service that costs $4.99 per month for Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. As part of this service, subscribers get member-only rewards including XP Boosts, FUT Packs and a free 10-hour trial of newly-released games, including FIFA 23.

There’s also an EA Play Pro subscription service which costs $14.99 a month which provides unlimited access to FIFA 23 and includes additional rewards, such as 4800 FIFA points on sign-up and 1600 FIFA Points per month for three months.

Prior to previous EA Sports FIFA game releases, being an EA Play subscriber granted players a free 10-hour trial and early access to the game when the FUT Web App was released, which allowed access about 10 days before release.

Ahead of the launch of FIFA 23 however, EA Sports has confirmed that EA Play subscribers will now be able to access the game only three days before the game’s official release date, the same amount of early access as those who have pre-ordered the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition.

This means EA Play subscribers will be able to access FIFA 23 on  Tuesday, September 27, 2022, three days before FIFA 23’s official release date of Friday, September 30, 2022.

FIFA 23 will be the final EA Sports FIFA title, following the decision of both companies to release their own football simulation games. EA has confirmed that their new game, EA Sports FC, will be released next year.
