Who will be FIFA 23 cover star?

FIFA 23 Cover Athelete

FIFA 23 will be released later this year, but we still don’t know which player will be the FIFA 23 cover star.

Kylian Mbappe has been the guy for the FIFA franchise for the past two years, and the expectation is that he holds that title again for FIFA 23.

EA Sports has confirmed partnerships with UEFA, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga following the decision to end their partnership with FIFA after almost 30 years. EA however did not announce an agreement of continued partnership with Ligue 1 after FIFA 23, which could see Mbappe be replaced as the cover star.

So if it’s not Mbappe on the cover, then who?

PSG, Liverpool, Man City, Milan, Inter and Real Madrid all have exclusive deals with EA so their players are most likely to feature on the cover. With that in mind EA could tab someone like Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, Manchester City’s Phil Foden or Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We’ll have all the details as soon as the FIFA 23 cover athlete is announced. Who do you want to see on the cover?

FIFA 23 Update: Will Look Familiar Despite the Upcoming Name Change

FIFA 23

EA FC is coming after FIFA 23 but for now its status quo.

EA Sports and FIFA decided to end their nearly thirty-year partnership, announcing the decision earlier this week. Instead, EA will rebrand the franchise as EA Sports FC.

FIFA 23 will be the final game that EA and FIFA will release as part of the partnership. Considering the recent news, and given that a FIFA World Cup is happening in 2022, players are wondering if FIFA 23 will have a World Cup mode.

FIFA 23 World Cup mode

In a blog post announcing some of their upcoming plans for the franchise, EA confirmed that FIFA 23 will have World Cup content. So despite the uncertainty surrounding the long-term changes to the franchise, players now know they’ll get their fill of World Cup content in FIFA 23.

The 2022 Qatar World Cup is also on the horizon, it will be played in the winter as opposed to the summer. This means that FIFA 23 could launch with World Cup content.

Ultimate Team World Cup content in FIFA 23

There is very little information out right now on FUT 23 content. In FIFA 2018, World Cup content was added to the game as a free downloadable add-on. We can expect something similar in FIFA 23 and probably more.

In FIFA 2018, Ultimate Team underwent a World Cup makeover, and fans are clearly excited at the prospect of a World Cup Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 23. We are almost certain to see special World Cup packs at multiple points throughout the year.

EA Sports FC Coming in 2023

EA Sports FC

FIFA 23 will release this year, but it will be EA Sports FC after that.

EA has announced that the FIFA series will change its name after FIFA 23, ending a partnership that has been in place since 1993.

EA Sports announced the change in a blog post, stating that there will be more information coming about the first EA Sports FC in July 2023. “This new independent platform will bring fresh opportunity – to innovate, create and evolve,” reads a statement from EA Sports representative, Cam Weber.

Despite dropping the name license, EA Sports FC will keep FIFA’s league, club and player licenses, including 19,000+ players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums and 30 leagues. FIFA itself has not released a statement at time of writing.

EA Sports vice president David Jackson released an important statement regarding the change: “In terms of things that they’ll miss, players will notice only two things: The name and a World Cup piece of content every four years. Outside of that, very little will change about the things they know, and love about the current FIFA products.”

EA had previously said it was exploring the idea of renaming the series, and trademarked the EA Sports FC name, but this is the first time it’s been officially confirmed.

Previous reports suggested that FIFA wanted to charge EA $1 billion every four years to use the name. A name mired in controversy for many years, including major corruption scandals.

FIFA 22 Cross-play Coming Soon

Fifa 22 Cross-play

FIFA 22 cross-play is almost ready to be rolled out, but only for certain game modes.

EA has announced that cross-play functionality will be tested in “the near future”, opening up to option for players to compete against opponents on other systems.

The initial cross-play test will only be available for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia versions of the game, Xbox One, PS4 and PC players will be left out for now. It will also only be added to Online Seasons and Online Friendlies modes.

According to a Q&A on FIFA 22’s official website, FIFA 22 ‘s FUT mode will not be getting cross-play, and the earliest it will arrive will be for FIFA 23.

“We limited the test to these two modes with the aim of reducing the chance for introducing new issues into the game,” FIFA 22’s official website reads.

“The game data and feedback that we get from these two modes will help inform how Cross-play could further be implemented in future titles.”

The post says that cross-play in Online Seasons will work the same way it has all year.

“As usual, the matchmaking will search for an appropriate opponent, and they may or may not end up being on a different platform than you.”

An earlier report claimed that FIFA 23 would include cross-play for the first time. The new announcement means it will be coming earlier than that.
