NHL25 Review: What Fans And Critics Are Saying

EA Sports recently released NHL25, and as usual with most video games, fans and critics share their thoughts. So, what are they saying?

Improvements from previous titles include an updated game engine, refined graphics, and an enhanced AI. The latest development, NHL25 took a fresh look at the hockey franchise. However, reviews have been a mixed bag. Some fans have embraced the changes while others feel underwhelmed.

Improvements But Not Enough

Game critics have largely given NHL25 moderate reviews. They have praised the updated graphics, saying it brings a new level of detail to players and crowds. The heavily marketed improvements to AI have also received praise. The in-game AI makes the game feel more realistic, with a smarter opponent that evolves as you do.

However, many critics feel that although these improvements are a welcome addition to the NHL series, they do not go far enough to reinvent the franchise. The “Franchise” and “Be A Pro” modes are said to be too similar to the previous installment. Unfortunately, this has left fans underwhelmed and wanting more from EA.

NHL25 currently has a 6/10 rating on IGN.

Fan Reactions Remain Divided

When it comes to games, who matters more, the fans or the critics? We would argue that the fans have the final say. Unfortunately, for NHL25, fans are even more divided.

Some players are thrilled with the improved gameplay mechanics and love the subtle changes that make the game feel fluid and life like. They suggest that NHL25 has brought the series closer to replicating real-world hockey.

However, a significant portion of fans disagree. They feel let down. These fans argue that NHL25 isn’t that much different from NHL24; and the lack of new and innovative features does not justify the price tag. Additionally, they argue the lack of updates to core game features, and persistent microtransactions (every gamers favorite) have left players feeling frustrated with EA.

The Bottom Line

While NHL25 makes some strides in the right direction, particularly in terms of graphics and gameplay, fans remain unconvinced that this is enough for the series. The game largely feels like a mid-season update to fix a few bugs, rather than the game changing sequel it was promised to be. If you are a die-hard hockey fan, you will likely enjoy the new game mechanics. However, the more casual gamers will continue to feel let down by EA.
